When I was just about seventeen years old, I went for my first facial. Some may call it a classic or “extraction” facial; something that was definitely needed at the time. As I left, the esthetician recommended that I stay away from facials until after I was twenty-five. I took that advice, fast forward to today and you could catch me inside Spa Evangeline.

Recently, the spa at Epicurean introduced the Hydrafacial MD® and I got to try it out. I jumped at the chance to spend some time getting a refreshing spa treatment, without actually thinking about the fact that it was so long since my first and only. Having sensitive skin made me nervous about letting anyone go near my face and of course I only thought of it when I was walked through the serenity hallway to my “treatment” room.

My esthetician was very friendly, welcoming and explained everything along the way.I felt very relaxed going into the treatment. Not being a routine facial goer I don’t have a lot to compare against, however I develop, market and sell skincare and other beauty products as my day job (Yes, I have one of those. Ha).

Now to the actual point, the treat was a four-step process that uses a combination of technology in machines and products to deliver a multi-layer exfoliation. Both mechanical (machine) and chemical (serum) work together to peel back the dead, dull skin cells and reveal the new youthful ones.

The Hydrafacial MD® machine was quite impressive. It glide smoothly across my skin with a cooling effect. I instantly felt refreshed and once again relaxed.  Then it was time for the chemical treatment. I would typically run the other direction when chemicals are involved, redness, downtime and discomfort, especially for my sensitive skin. The esthetician smoothed the serums across my face while massaging. To be honest, I didn’t follow along with the application, I was more concerned with my skin’s reaction and at this point I could have taken a nap.

One of the biggest things that was stressed was the use of sunscreen after exposing the new skin. This was no big deal because I wear sunscreen on a daily basis to keep my skin looking youthful.

On my way out, I got a taste of a neck and shoulder massage followed by a stroll through the selective prestige beauty product section. Having a background, it was very enjoyable to see all the brand and cool new products they keep on their shelves.I walked out of the spa with my head up, feeling refreshed and ready for the day. If only, I could start more of my days off at the spa…

Disclosure: I received this complimentary experience through a Spa Evangeline/Epicurean Hotel partnership in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
